More to our story...

What is Westercon 75?

A Hero's Journey

a castle

Once upon a time, 76 years ago, a few science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts decided to come together. They called it Westercon. This was a chance to meet others like themself. Share stories and share their knowledge of how to write and get published.
While this is still the core purpose, over the years the gatherings has evolved. We have added costumes, gaming, filking, vendors room and art shows. There is a hospitality room to drink and eat while swaping stories. This year we will be adding Virtual Reality.
Our theme this year is fantasy where you are the main protagonist of the story. We encourge you to dress up in fantsay or historical clothing (this is optional). We will have adventures and prizes. This is not a typical gathering as this year we will be roasting to those that came before us and their great acomplishments.

Westercon History

In 1948, Walter J. “Doc” Daugherty of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society proposed that an annual West Coast convention be started for West Coast fans who couldn't afford to travel east each year. The first Westercon was held in September, 1948. It was a one-day event with an attendance of 77. It wasn't until 1951 that the Westercon became a weekend-long event, settled into the July 4th holiday and began traveling to different cities.

By Laws and Traditions

Westercon 75 is run under the guidance and permission of Westercon. For more information please check out the traditions and bylaws in which we are required to follow.
